The hearts of the Holy Roman Empire emperors of the House of Habsburg and their family members have been laid to rest in a plain crypt.

The custom of entombing hearts came into being in the 17 century.

In total 54 hearts have been laid to rest in a simple crypt in the St. Augustine’s church, the former imperial royal parish church of the emperor.
